Directs programs that measure and improve the quality and safety of an organization's services.

Reporting and scope

Reports to the Executive Director / CEO, COO or Medical Director / CMO. Authority covers quality and patient or client safety across the organization.

  • Runs quality improvement and safety programs
  • Tracks outcome measures for funders, payers and regulators
  • Leads preparation for accreditation surveys
  • Manages incident reporting and review
  • Reports quality results to the board quality committee
  • Trains staff on improvement methods

How it differs

Chief Quality Officer is the C-level quality executive. Director of Quality runs the work at a lower level. VP of Medical Affairs covers physician quality.
