Manages the day-to-day administration of an office, including facilities, supplies, vendors and support staff.

Reporting and scope

Reports to the Executive Director / CEO, COO or Business Manager. Authority covers office administration at one site.

  • Supports board meeting logistics and executive scheduling
  • Handles basic bookkeeping, payables or gift entry in small offices
  • Coordinates onboarding, benefits paperwork and HR records
  • Oversees receptionists and administrative assistants
  • Maintains files, records retention and office policies

How it differs

The Business Manager owns finance and administration with more budget authority. The Operations Manager focuses on program or service operations rather than the office. The Chief of Staff supports the chief executive on strategy and priorities.
