Director of Outreach

Directs an organization's work to reach and engage the communities and people it serves.

Reporting and scope

Usually reports to the Director of Programs, Chief Program Officer or Executive Director / CEO. Authority covers outreach staff and the work of connecting people with services.

  • Plans outreach to underserved or eligible populations
  • Supervises outreach workers, navigators or community health workers
  • Builds referral partnerships with agencies, schools and clinics
  • Tracks contacts, enrollments and demographics for grant reporting
  • Recruits and trains outreach volunteers
  • Adapts materials for language and cultural fit

How it differs

Director of Community Relations manages partner and public relationships rather than enrollment into services. Director of Admissions decides admissions. Director of Marketing uses paid channels. Director of Outreach is field-based and service-oriented.
